1909 | a commission is set up to create a ‘Musée jurassien’ in Delémont, a museum designed to collect all objects relating to the history of the Jura region |
1910 | presentation of the first collections in a room in the Château de Delémont, which then housed the secondary school |
1914 | signing of the “Deed of foundation of the Museum of the Jura” |
1922 | inauguration of the Museum at the Grand'Rue 52 (now Rue du 23-Juin), an 18th-century building made available by the Delémont town council |
1934 | creation of the ‘Société des Amis du Musée jurassien’ |
1953 | the ‘Fondation du Musée jurassien’ validates its first articles of association; its main body is a 13-member commission representing the State of Berne, the Municipality and the Bourgeoisie of Delémont |
1953-1959 | renovation of the premises and enlargement of the Museum thanks to the provision of the second floor of the former gendarmerie building adjacent to the Museum - with the Porrentruy Gate |
1973 | further extension of the Museum, taking over the whole of the former gendarmerie building and the adjoining house in the Ruelle du Cheval-Blanc |
1979 | entry into sovereignty of the Republic and Canton of Jura, which statutorily joins the ‘Fondation du Musée jurassien’ alongside the State of Bern, the Municipality and the Bourgeoisie of Delémont |
1986 | the « Musée jurassien » becomes the ‘Musée jurassien d’art et d’histoire’ |
1996-1999 | renovation of all the buildings; the museum was then closed for almost four years |
2009-2011 | refurbishment of the permanent exhibition rooms |
2011 | reopening of the completely renovated museum, with a new permanent exhibition presenting the Jura through 7 Deadly Clichés |
2016 | new storerooms - made available by the Municipality of Delémont - are fitted out |
